Due to very early tides at Bradfield, decided to foil at Alton. Its my go to home for cycling and Motorhome parking, but hadn't bothered to windsurf.
Today early morning it was very windy and looked great. I spent hours catching up with long lost mates, all mainly winging. In fact Alton is pretty much wing heaven, as they get going on the tiniest gusts due to the light weight. I think I should have switched from wind to wing 2 years ago when I could. It would easily fit in the MH anyway. Cant be bothered now. The were many wingers , couple of fins and wind foilers. I rigged 6M (others on 5M) thinking it was ambitious, but sadly I missed the strong winds talking, then spent 30 mins trying to get pass the horrendous weed on the shore. After swimming way out, I was still dragging weed on the foil and boom. I flipped several times clearing it, but snagged again. As I was about to give up with another sailor, he found a clear spot, so I followed him, dragging a load, but got to the middle of the reservoir, where I flipped and cleared it all.
By now the wind died 1pm ish. The wings were smashing it, to rub salt in the wound, with some good wingers gybing around me! I would have gone in and rigged large, but there is no chance with the weed menace, so I stayed out slogging in F2/3 for a couple of hrs! I had one flight for 50 mtrs which was OK at 15kts. My heavy body weight at the reservoir precludes me from using small sails. My rear stab was set at -2, and the mast foot fully on the nose, so I knew there was no chance of foiling today, unless the wind returned. (It did when I was packing up ffs) Next time will rig 8M no matter what. Reading the Alton forums suggests launching the other side of the rescue boat, so will try that. For the time being will stick to bike the trails.
I never left the HR grey zone on my Garmin Epic pro, so it didn't even count as a workout! I had to go back to the gym to workout.
